I finally got an email back from The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in regards to the zine I made and sent to them. From the sound of the email, they enjoyed looking through the zine and have archived it in the museums library! This has been beneficial for me in terms of contacting the museum and having to have the confidence to send my work over too them, I think in the future, this will make me less nervous to send bits of my work out to potential clients and companies.

Editorial - Mockups and Brief Review
Things that have worked well:
- Choosing articles suited more to my interests
- Consistent colour palette and overall aesthetic
- Convey tone and/or main message from article
- Layout and composition
Things that could've worked better:
- Variation of article types, interviews, reviews etc
- Didn't stay within designated time frame
- Further push composition elements
Overall I've enjoyed working in this way over the past few weeks, allowing myself to work in a commercial way but with subject matter that better suits me and my practice. I've found it difficult to stick to my set deadlines due to getting sidetracked by other briefs or just loosing interest in this kind of work for a little while. I think this has helped push my practice further and if anything has proved to myself that my work is applicable in commercial settings.
Editorial - A Garden In My Mind
'I never got lost in the forest. That happened much later in cities where loneliness often strikes you in the midst of the rush-hour crowd' |
Overall this proejct has been beneficial to me in that its taught me that I can work in an editorial aspect and that this is something that I enjoy, just maybe not in the traditional context. I much prefer working with creative writing pieces in an editorial format than, lets say for example, a more scientific based article.

Implements of Magick Zine
I've recently made a quick zine based off of the magical collection down at The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle, Cornwall. I've not had a chance to actually visit the museum but my instagram feed has been continuously full of posts from them showcasing items from their collection, inspiring me to get spooky and make a little zine title 'Implements of Magick'. After posting it on Instagram, the museum got in touch asking me to send them a copy so I've posted one down to them with my contact details and will hopefully hear something back from them, if only a little feedback!

Editorial - The More My House Changes, The More My Bedrooms Stay The Same
As I continue with this editorial project, I am noticing that even thought I am working within a full page constraint, it's rare that I use the entire measurements to create my images, rather working in smaller sections or creating a larger scale vignette style image. I think this allows me to explore composition a little more, as without using the full page, I need to find ways to keep my imagery engaging and interesting to the viewer.
I tried focusing more on a quote for this piece, specificly 'carrying my home on my back like a lurid, unngainly snail'. I found this to be a quote that fit with the overall message behind the creative writing piece, the idea of carrying specific things around with you to make any place feel like home. As with the last piece, I tried to tell the story of the entire article through writing, with this, i'm trying to focus down on one specific over-arching aspect of it.
